PSM Makassar Responds to Point Deduction in Barito Putera Incident
Makassar, March 10, 2023
PSM Makassar has issued a statement regarding the point deduction imposed by the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) following an incident during their match against Barito Putera.
The incident, which occurred on March 4, 2023, involved a pitch invasion by PSM fans after the match ended in a 4-1 defeat for the Makassar-based club. PSSI subsequently deducted three points from PSM's tally, citing a violation of league regulations.
In their statement, PSM expressed regret over the incident and acknowledged the need to maintain discipline and fair play in football. The club also stated that they have taken steps to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future, including increasing security measures and educating fans on appropriate behavior.
PSM further emphasized their commitment to working with PSSI and other stakeholders to improve the overall safety and integrity of Indonesian football.
The point deduction has left PSM in a precarious position in the league standings, with the club now sitting in 10th place with 38 points. However, PSM remains determined to finish the season strongly and secure a top-five finish, which would qualify them for the AFC Cup.
