Former Indonesian National Team Captain Expresses Shock Over Shin Tae-yong's Dismissal
Former Indonesian national team captain, Bambang Pamungkas, has expressed his surprise over the dismissal of South Korean coach Shin Tae-yong. Pamungkas believes that Shin should have been given the opportunity to complete the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
I was shocked when I heard the news, Pamungkas said. I think Shin Tae-yong should have been given the chance to finish the third round of the qualifiers. He had already made significant progress with the team.
Under Shin's leadership, Indonesia had won four out of eight matches in the second round of the qualifiers, including a historic victory over Thailand. The team also reached the final of the 2020 AFF Championship, where they lost to Thailand.
Pamungkas believes that Shin's dismissal is a setback for Indonesian football. We need stability and continuity in our coaching staff, he said. I hope that the PSSI (Indonesian Football Association) will reconsider their decision and give Shin another chance.
The PSSI has yet to announce a replacement for Shin. However, several names have been linked to the position, including former Indonesia coach Luis Milla and current Thailand coach Mano Polking.
